| Description | Siegal’s 2011 album The Skinny earned him a Blues Music Awards nomination for Best Contemporary Blues Album, the first British artist ever to have been nominated in this category. For this latest cut, The UK’s pre-eminent singer/songwriter returned to the hills of north Mississippi to once again work with producer/drummer Cody Dickinson. Cody, his brother Luther, and Memphis resident Alvin Youngblood Hart provide the core of the band, with contributions from Garry Burnside, Lightnin’ Malcolm and a powerful trio of female backing singers. The result is an uplifting fusion of swampy soul, southern rock, hill country blues and Siegal’s trademark catchy, lyrically-driven songs. Siegal rates this his best output to date. This is the sound of a master at work, confident in what he wants to achieve and benefiting from being surrounded by talented collaborators. The songs are memorable and the energy is palpable. There are Blues singers. There are good Blues singers. And then there is Ian Siegal, who is in a class of his own." - Blues in Britain magazine |
