Description | Founded in 1968 by Gram Parsons and Chris Hillman, the Country-rock trailblazers that were The Flying Burrito Brothers pioneered the way for a whole genre of groups that followed - of whom The Eagles became the most spectacularly and commercially successful Since their inception, the group went through numerous line-up changes - disbanding entirely only at the dawn of the new millennium. This event from the summer of 1971 however features one of their strongest incarnations, with band members later finding superstardom with such luminaries as the aforementioned Eagles, and The Byrds. At the time of this FM broadcast of an in-house performance at Sigma Studios in Philadelphia on July 22nd 1971, the Flying Burrito Brothers had released three studio albums, The Gilded Palace of Sin (1969), Burrito Deluxe (1970) and The Flying Burrito Bros (1971). The latter of these was the most heavily represented during the show and while there is a surprising absence of any tracks from the group''s sophomore record this is more than offset by the inclusion of a good selection from their classic debut and the addition of four non-album cuts. |
