The Impressions, formed in 1958, blended gospel, R&B, doo-wop, and soul. Their breakthrough came with For Your Precious Love, written by Arthur Brooks, Richard Brooks, and Jerry Butler, and ranked #335 on Rolling Stone''s 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. Originating as the Roosters in Chattanooga, the group evolved in Chicago with Jerry Butler and Curtis Mayfield. Inducted into both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Vocal Group Hall of Fame, they produced 1960s hits that became Civil Rights anthems.
