Description | RARE FM BROADCAST FROM JOURNEY''S RECORD BREAKING 1983 TOUR Formed in 1973 by Gregg Rolie after he left Santana, Journey made little impact on the international stage during their early years together. But when, in 1977 they bought in Steve Perry to take over lead vocals from Rolie their fortunes began to change. With the musical climate changing too in the US and FM radio-friendly bands such as Boston and Foreigner making it big, Journey changed their style somewhat and without losing their individuality produced a more wide-reaching collection of songs for their 1978 album ''Infinity'' which slowly climbed up the Billboard charts reaching a peak at Number 21. But it was their follow-up ''Departure'', climbing to Number 8 on the chart, and the subsequent sell out tour which turned the group into a household name. But despite their new found glory, Journey had not yet reached the heights they would reach over the next couple of years. In 1981 they released their biggest selling album ever in ''Escape'', replete with the enormous evergreen hit single Don''t Stop Believing, one of those songs that takes on a life of its own and indeed still gets played routinely today. MTV, just beginning at this time, also gave the group a leg-up by featuring Don''t Stop Believing and other tracks on heave rotation in their opening year, leading the group to the kind of success only very few acts ever reach. And the celebrity and success was maintained with 1983''s ''Frontiers'' which sold a whopping 6,000,000 copies and went on to spur four hit singles and a tour that remains the highest grossing of any rock tour performed on American soil to date. This CD contains the full set from an FM Broadcast given on the Frontiers Tour performed at The Lloyd Noble Center in Norman, Oklahoma on July 21st, 1983. |
