Description | RARE NILS LOFGREN LIVE FM BROADCAST FROM 1977 Nils Lofgren, sidekick to the stars... and a flaming star in his own right. Both Neil Young and Bruce Springsteen have showcased the talents of Nils Lofgren within their own bands for many years, yet the man has still managed to create a superb portfolio of his own material, released under his own name, and with his highly regarded early 1970''s band, Grin. The performance here was recorded at a prestigious club date at New York''s 400-seater Bottom Line, in the winter of 1977, following the release of Nils'' third solo album, ''I Came to Dance''. Born in Chicago in 1951, Nils Lofgren''s first musical instrument was the accordion, however by 1968 he had formed Grin, a rock outfit based in Washington D.C.. He soon came to the attention of Neil Young who recruited Nils to play guitar and piano on his classic ''After the Goldrush'' album in 1970. The following year he played on the debut album of Young''s long-time backing band Crazy Horse. The Young-Lofgren association continued for many years. Most notable are Lofgren''s contributions to Neil''s magnificently harrowing 1975 album ''Tonight''s The Night'' and 1982''s vocoder-drenched and Kraftwerk-inspired ''Trans''. |
