Description | Art Farmer (1928-1999) was a pioneering American jazz trumpeter and flugelhorn player, later known for the unique flumpet. Rising to prominence with Farmer''s Market (1952), he collaborated with legends like Horace Silver, Sonny Rollins, and Gerry Mulligan, and co-founded the Jazztet with Benny Golson. Switching to flugelhorn in the 1960s, he helped establish it as a key jazz solo instrument. Farmer recorded over 50 albums, noted for lyrical, warm, and sensitive playing.
