| Description | This epic live radio broadcast captures ZZ Top at the very cusp of their worldwide success, recorded during the East coast leg of their 1980 breakthrough tour at the Capitol Theater in Passaic, New Jersey. The band also made a high-profile foray into Europe at this time; their performance on German TV''s ''Rockpalast'' being something of a landmark in the band''s long history. Prior to the formation of the mighty ZZ Top, guitarist, vocalist and songwriter Billy Gibbons had already served his rock''n''roll apprenticeship as front man for the legendary Texan psychedelic garage band, The Moving Sidewalks, during the late 1960''s. Their classic single 99th Floor topped the local Austin charts for six weeks in 1967 and the band toured as support to both the Doors and Jimi Hendrix the following year. By 1969, the Sidewalk''s day was done and Gibbons formed ZZ Top in Houston. Within a year, after recording just one single (Salt Lick b/w Miller''s Farm, 1969) the other original members were replaced by bassist Dusty Hill and drummer Frank Beard. This trio have remained inviolate ever since. Now, after more than 40 years together, it is almost impossible to find another band with such a perfectly consistent line-up! Earlier inspirational hard rocking power trios like Taste, Cream and the Jimi Hendrix Experience have come, and indeed gone, but ZZ Top motor on, rolling relentlessly across the years. The group''s first two albums (''ZZ Top''s First Album'' and ''Rio Grande Mud'') laid down the blueprint for the earthy Blues-based ZZ Top sound, but it was with 1973''s ''Tres Hombres'' that ZZ Top really began to make their mark. The record was a Top 10 hit and peaked at number 8 on the Billboard 200.
