Description | CLASSIC ERA HOMETOWN SHOW FROM 1985 FOR MINNESOTA''S FAVOURITE SONS From the streets of St. Paul, Minnesota, guitarist and vocalist Bob Mould, bassist Greg Norton, and drummer Grant Hart united in 1979 to create one of the most popular and influential bands ever to emerge from the Twin Cities. Shifting styles from hardcore to alternative, the group released six studio albums including critically acclaimed Zen Arcade and New Day Rising. Grappling with drinking, drugs, and disagreements, the threesome called it quits in 1987. Mould and Hart continued with solo musical careers while Norton focused his energies in the restaurant business. This superb show performed in front of a home crowd at Minneapolis'' First Avenue - a local club integral to Husker Du''s early development - on 28th August, 1985, was broadcast on the Spin Radio Show. Played at the height of their career to launch the release of 4th album, Flip Your Wig, the set included several cuts from this classic LP, along with older tunes and a handful of numbers from their next record, Candy Apple Grey - not released until March 1986. And after listening to the dynamic, frenzied albeit melodically structured musical performance encompassed on this CD again, thirty years on Husker Du remain one of the best reasons to ''remember the 1980s''. |
