Description | This new collection of classic Oscar Peterson albums released on the Verve label, the company he recorded for almost exclusively between 1956 and 1963. Kicking off this new collection is the fabulous "Louis Armstrong Meets Oscar Peterson" (1957), one of many records Oscar''s trio made with a guest musician. Next up comes the stunning "Jazz Soul Of Oscar Peterson" (1959), an album with swinging, straight-ahead affair featuring superb playing throughout. "The Oscar Peterson Trio with Roy Eldridge, Sonny Stitt and Jo Jones at Newport" (1957) is a live album recorded at the 1957 Newport Jazz Festival. "Sonny Stitt Sits in with the Oscar Peterson Trio" (1959), an album by Sonny Stitt, accompanied by the Oscar Peterson trio. "On the Town with the Oscar Peterson Trio" (1958) is a live album recorded in Toronto 1958. "Very Tall" (1961) is an album with vibraphonist Milt Jackson guesting. This album marked the first recorded collaboration between Peterson and Jackson. "Oscar Peterson at the Concertgebouw" (1958) is a live album from a Chicago concert at the Civic Opera House. Five additional selections, added later for the CD edition, are from an appearance in Los Angeles. The final album to grace this computation is "Bursting Out With The All Star Big Band" (1962), a rare outing for Peterson where in addition to his regular bassist Ray Brown and drummer Ed Thigpen he is joined by a notably strong big band arranged by Ernie Wilkins. |
