Description | Moloken is a metal band from northern Sweden and was formed in Umeå the fall of 2007 with the intention to create progressive music with the foundation in metal. Inspired by 90''s Death, Doom- and Black Metal scene along with 70''s progressive rock, they have in a short period of time managed to create a unique sound and their own musical approach. On their new album and second album Rural, the band displays a strong musical showcase of innovative songs. Seven tracks spanning over 52 minutes in which all songs have their own expression but rests on a solid base of dark experimental metal. The instrumental track Casus with a clear progressive rock flirt is mixed with a 16:30 minutes of epic blackish metal named Ulv. Rural is in many ways a natural continuation of previous works but also shows a clear experimental lust. They dig deeper into their musical landscape with songs that are both slower and faster, harder and softer, darker but lighter and offer one another unexpected twist. The album is also the first with guitarist Patrick Ylmefors along with founding member Kristoffer Bäckström has developed and refined the guitar role and now has a more prominent role in the sound. Patrick joined the band in 2009, when he replaced John Öman immediately after the recording of "Our Astral Circle".And like last time, no guitar overdubs or drum trigg, no effects or equalizers were used in the channel chain during recording. The few effects / compressor / eq used, is added in the mix and the idea is the same, to achieve the feeling of a live concert. The album is also mastered a bit lower to keep more of the dynamics. The result is an album that requires some time of his listeners, but it just makes the reward all the greater. |
