| Description | Reissue. Katatonia, formed in 1991 by Anders Nyström and Jonas Renkse, began with a gothic doom/death metal style, gaining acclaim with their 1993 debut Dance of December Souls. Evolving into a progressive metal cornerstone, the band released Viva Emptiness, their sixth studio album, in 2003. Recorded at Stockholm''s Soundtrade Studios, the album refined their melodic dark rock/metal sound and is regarded as one of their strongest works, even surpassing the acclaimed Last Fair Deal Gone Down.
