Venom, formed in 1978 in Newcastle, pioneered a raw fusion of punk and metal with a Satanic image, credited as the origin of Black Metal and influencing thrash and speed metal. Their early classics include Welcome to Hell (1981), Black Metal (1982), and At War with Satan (1984). Guitarist Mantas later pursued a solo project with a hard rock focus, joined by Al Barnes and Pete Harrison. The release adds rare bonus tracks, including a Fleetwood Mac cover, plus new interviews. Mantas has recently reunited with drummer Abaddon. |
